Full day today.
Met Jolene, Ft of 4 Res to discuss the teaching of vocabulary. Provided her with some resources and discussed possible strategies and activities, with focus on integrating with the 4 language skills. Also discussed her TFU unit on Natural Disasters. Gave some feedback on her ideas and some possble considerations for the processes and evidence of understanding/learning.
Meeting with Jolene.
Conduced a class on writing in 4 Res.(videod lesson) Ms Lim, a BT and Jolene observed the lesson. Went through the story organiser used and discussed with class about the need to examine how their ideas were organised and whether they were relevant. Main focus was on how to review their ideas.
Met Waheeda, EL HOD and discussed plans on using cloze strategies for the whole school. She brought up the fact that when she tried to use syntax clues, her pupils did not have enough understanding about parts of speech. We discussed about how STELLAR actually looks into teaching POS and how the school could look into helping pupils across the levels work with POS in more engaging and interesting ways across the language skills. Main thing was that the cloze reading strategies should not drive the earlier instruction! Also discussed lack of time to meet teams for ST mentoring, AfL etc because many members are involved in active PLCs on the day that I am there. She will try to work out and resolve the matter. Its a learning experience for both of us.
Finally met Jolene and Ms Lim for a debrief of my lesson. ms Lim also shared how she taught grammar. Discussed some possible concerns . Invited Ms LIm to come and see me if she had any problems, queries with her lesson design or teaching of EL.
